No Bully

When I was still in grade school, the class bully made an announcement, “I’m gonna take five steps. And Wherever I land, the girl is gonna get it.” I started trembling in my seat. I knew I was her target because she started by taking five steps from my table and now she’s walking back!

It seemed like an eternity as I watched her retrace her steps. This Spanish girl, who was bigger than me, had so much uncontrolled energy that I didn’t know what to expect.

All of us second graders had recently received our vaccinations so I had a boil in my arm. When the bully landed near my table, she took a big whack at me and hit my boil. To this day, I carry a scar from that incident.
